How does it work?

Skin dryness occurs when the water content of the stratum corneum is sub-optimal. The skin thickens and becomes rough when the skin is very dry and there is an accumulation of dead cells.

When skin flaking or overall skin cell dispersal is extreme (when cell renewal is too fast :  < 28 days), the stratum corneum thickens in an attempt to slow cell elimination.

Factors such as inherent ageing, innate sensitivity, use of medication, hormonal changes and other external factors (cold, dry weather, excessive cleansing, etc.) can aggravate or even trigger accelerated skin thickening.

Scales then build up on the surface, giving the skin a cracked, leathery appearance and the skin becomes rough, feels tight and starts flaking.
